Name: Neil James
Roll on the Committee: Rugby Grounds Rep
How did you get involved in Manchester Rugby Club?
Moved to Manchester FC (now commonly known as MRC) in early 1990’s to play rugby at a higher level having been at Burnage RUFC prior to that.
What makes you stay in rugby?
I like the club. It has a great social side to it and some good people here.
Biggest achievement/proudest moment in rugby:
Not my achievement but watching my sons play is the biggest rugby moments I have experienced - especially when they have lined up prior to an international match - I never really show my emotions but watching them sing their national anthem prior to the matches really gets to me. My greatest rugby experience is probably winning the Lancashire Cup 4 times with MFC and playing alongside some great players when the club was climbing the leagues in the 5 or 6 seasons after I joined.
Vision for the future of Manchester Rugby Club:
To continue to be a great club - I like seeing so many of the junior players coming through to play for the senior teams and that has to be the back bone of any grassroots club - I think we have done it well over the past ten seasons - I would also like to see the whole club (rugby, cricket and squash) work together better as it could be a spectacular club if and when that happens.
What do you do away from rugby?
Walking , gardening, still trying to keep some semblance of fitness at the gym/running – and eating and drinking
