This is an exciting time to be a young rugby player here at Manchester on Sunday 14th September we are launching “KIDS FIRST RUGBY” in the Main Hall at 9:45am to the Under 7's through to Under 11's
The children were presented with their Ruckley Sticker Books to reward and highlight progress in the key areas.
In November of last year the RFU held a Rugby Blueprint Roadshow at various venues around the country where they presented a vision for the future of Mini and Junior rugby. This gave us the chance to discuss and promote our approach to coaching.
Manchester along with our good friends from Broughton Park are currently the only 2 clubs in the North West, and a handful nationwide to be chosen by the RFU to pilot the scheme.
Kids First Rugby is a new approach to the way the game is played at rugby clubs across England. It is a programme of coaching and playing that puts the child at the centre and moves on at the child’s own pace and development, enabling more children to experience success.
Kids First Rugby is spearheaded by Ruckley.
He’s the latest recruit to the England Rugby team – an English bulldog with boundless energy, bucket loads of enthusiasm and an endless love of rugby.
Ruckley was transformed after finding a crystal rugby ball beneath the hallowed Twickenham turf. After accompanying his owner, Harry, to a kicking session at Twickenham Ruckley escaped and began burrowing into the Twickenham soil, much to the dismay of the groundsman who keeps a watchful eye over the grass. It was there that Ruckley found the crystal ball that made him the England Rugby ambassador he is today.

We have signed up to the Kids First Manifesto
Rugby can help children to be confident, competent, positive, creative and decisive which will be of benefit to them in all aspects of life.
Kids First redirects the focus of coaching from coaching rugby to children to developing children through rugby - a subtle but significant difference in emphasis.
The Personal and social development underpins and encompasses the other aspects of development. Core Values, Physical and Movement Development, Game Understanding and Skills Focus
We believe that good people make good rugby players
